2009 a bad year for Hotels. Yes it is but they will be doing their best to make hay during the peak season. From the 2nd week of July to the Saturday before the Kids go back to school is the peak time for Irish Holiday Hotels.
If you can hold off the prices will drop like a stone the Sunday before the kids go back to school. Last year I got a week in a holiday home in Kenmare for €250. If I had gone the week before €950. They know they will not fill after the School Hols so its a case of Bums on Beds until the Oct Bank Hol.
If you have to go peak time then try midweek. Even during the boom many Hotels did not fill midweek in Jul/Aug
Case in point. The Gleneagle Killarney have a special from Monday 17th Aug. 4 Nights B&B & Evening meals including Daily sightseeing trips for just €279pps.
They will also bring you via bus from various points in Cork & Waterford. I can tell you there is not a whole lot of profit in that for a Hotel
According to media reports banks maybe waiting until the National Asset Management Agency sets up before they pull the plug on failing Hotels.
Everyone in the Irish Hotel industry knows that some new Hotels opened in parts of the Country that were always going to be a tough sell. Even in good times.
No one wants to see any Hotel close but some will before the year is out.
Hotels that react to current market conditions will be stronger when any recovery happens. A strong flexible Pricing & Online strategy is a must. As they say. You snooze you lose.

Pay for Click has been with us for a while now. In the early days it was a great way of getting a R.O.I. It has become a lot tougher now.
Why? It is simple. More people are now doing PPC. The more people doing it mean more people bidding on terms such as Dublin Hotels. The more people bidding the more expensive the term Dublin Hotels become. The more expensive the terms become the less Return on Investment you will get.
It is ironic. The more we all learn and do the less of the PPC pie we get. You can still make it work. What can you do?
Make sure you have access to your AdWords stats.
Make sure you know how much each conversion is costing you.
Make sure you know what terms are been bid on.
Reports. Reports. Reports. Review often.
