How to Avoid the Hotel Book Out Blues Monday, 3 August 2009 12:07

Why do Hotels over book?

Book outs can be a pain for both the guest & Hotels.  Hotels get into overbooking situations for a number of reasons.

They have not watched their availability properly -Most Hotels have agreements with wholesalers and must give them an agreed number of rooms every night - Cancellations are less then expected.

How do you avoid getting bumped?

Watch out for danger dates.  For example a concert or a sporting event is announced for the area.  This is when all the Wholesalers will take up their full allotments (drives hotels nuts) & cancellations will be low.  If the Hotel is already full before the event is announced they still have to accept the agreed allocations and are now heading for an overbooking situation.

Call the Hotel a few days before you are due to arrive.  The Hotel will then know 100% you are coming.

Arrive early on the day.  Many times the last to arrive will be the 1st to be booked out to another Hotel.  The Hotel will be hoping some people will not turn up.

I hate saying this but the more you complain the less chance you will be booked out.
